People's Assembly in Stonehouse Sparks Conversations

Stonehouse recently hosted a People's Assembly—and we were reminded just how powerful it is when people come together in their own neighbourhoods to talk about what matters most.

One attendee shared, “We were able to share ideas without fear of being shut down.” That sense of openness is what we’re striving for—especially in spaces where mistrust or disengagement has built up over time.

We didn’t walk away with all the answers, but we did leave with stronger connections, fresh ideas, and a few powerful themes to carry forward. Community safety, better access to green space, and finding ways for neighbours to support each other—these came up again and again.

It wasn’t a formal consultation. It was a space to listen, to be heard, and to explore together what local change might look like. And for many who joined, that felt like something worth building on.

We’re planning more assemblies like this—informal, hosted by the community, and open to all.

Because belonging begins when people feel invited to shape the future of the places they call home.
